Nikolaus Herdieckerhoff, on the cello, tells a slightly different take on the Little Red Riding Hood story, in which the tale of the big bad wolf becomes a hilariously funny story, with every mood finding a virtuoso counterpart on the cello.

On a sunny summer’s day, the cheerful Little Red Riding Hood encounters the cunning wolf. When he hears that she is on her way to her grandmother’s, he decides that today’s main course will be Grandma and the starter will be Little Red Riding Hood. But then he spots the old lady’s nightdress, slips into it – and the role reversal is complete. Unfortunately, the door slams shut just as he is greedily keeping an eye out for the little girl.

Here, the old tale is effortlessly reworked for the modern day into an uplifting book featuring an expanded cast of fairy-tale characters. To accompany this, Nikolaus Herdieckerhoff makes the strings of his cello sing in a way that is a sheer delight.
