About Snails and Clams—a workshop on the slimy, wet inhabitants of Spreepark.
Snails and clams belong to the phylum Mollusca and are close relatives of octopuses and squids. Over the course of about 500 million years of evolution, they have developed remarkable adaptations: Snails can cling to almost any surface, crawl over sharp edges, and their mucus protects them from pathogens. They also make an important contribution to healthy ecosystems by promoting the formation of fertile soil. Freshwater mussels, too, play a central role in the ecosystem by filtering water and thus contributing to water quality.

Mollusken des Spreeparks
In this workshop, participants will go on a joint discovery tour through Spreepark. Along the way, they’ll search for freshwater mussels as well as land and aquatic snails and learn about their lifestyles and importance to nature. Optionally, they can then examine their finds under a microscope and discover hidden details about these often-overlooked animals.
