MARTIN SCHOELLER

From Monday, July 27, through Sunday, August 9, 2026, the CAMERA WORK Gallery will present a special exhibition featuring selected “Close Up” works by Martin Schoeller in the Hall of Honor at the Berlin Olympic Stadium. In an architecturally extraordinary setting, the exhibition will feature, among others, portraits of personalities such as Bruce Springsteen, Bono of U2, and Udo Lindenberg—all of whom have performed at the Olympic Stadium. Also on display are sports legends such as Zinédine Zidane, Lionel Messi, and Pelé.

Martin Schoeller is one of the world’s most renowned portrait photographers. In addition to his ongoing “Close Up” series, his body of work includes staged portraits as well as art projects within his series that focus on socially relevant themes. Born in Munich, he studied photography at the Lette Verein in Berlin and moved to New York in the mid-1990s. His work has been published in “Time,” “The New Yorker,” and “National Geographic,” among others.

*We All Bleed Red* is a documentary film that celebrated its world premiere in 2024. Documentary filmmaker Josephine Links accompanied her stepbrother Martin Schoeller on his private photo shoots and shows how the photographer creates very personal spaces for connection with his subjects. The film will be shown on August 2 and 9 at 2:00 p.m. each day in the Ehrenhalle. No separate tickets are required for the screenings; an admission ticket to the Berlin Olympic Stadium is sufficient.

Tickets for a tour of the Berlin Olympic Stadium cost 11 euros per person (8 euros/reduced rate).

Children between the ages of 6 and 14 pay 6 euros; children under 6 are admitted free when accompanied by an adult. A Family Card for two adults and up to three children under 14 costs 27 euros.

Individuals can visit the exhibition from July 27 through August 9 only between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Tickets for tours and guided tours can be booked HERE.

The Berlin Olympic Stadium is open daily—except on event days—from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
