It honors the artistic legacy of this significant painter of the Leipzig School and presents his final series of works from his time in Berlin, where he shaped the careers of numerous young artists as a professor at the Weißensee Academy of Art Berlin in the 1990s.
Peuker’s Berlin paintings—both portraits of people and architectural portraits—address themes that still concern us today through dark tones and symbolic motifs: How do we deal with our history? How do we reflect on social tensions and upheavals? How do people assert their identity in times of uncertainty?
His works are complemented by pieces by four of his students: Stefanie Hillich, Sibylle Prange, Philipp Schack, and Christian Thoelke.
During a guided tour with Sibylle Prange and Christian Thoelke, you will learn firsthand what Wolfgang Peuker was like as a teacher and as a person, and how he encouraged his students to find their artistic identity.
A rare opportunity for anyone interested in painting, art education, and East German art history from the GDR era to reunification.
The tour lasts approximately one hour and is included in the admission price (5 euros, reduced rate 3 euros). No advance registration is required.
