by Wolfgang Herrndorf
For weeks, Maik Klingenberg has been thinking of nothing but Tatjana’s birthday party, which is set to take place at the start of summer break. Everyone in the class is invited—only the outsiders didn’t get an invitation. Maik is one of them. So his summer break begins alone by the pool with 200 euros in pocket money.
His mother is in rehab again anyway, and his father has gone on a trip with a young coworker. But suddenly, Tschick shows up in front of Maik’s garage in a stolen Lada Niva.
Tschick, whose real name is actually Andrej Tschichatschow, wasn’t invited to the party either. And so begins an adventurous journey across Brandenburg with one destination in mind: Wallachia.
Alexander Riemenschneider’s production presents Herrndorf’s famous coming-of-age story of two very different teenagers who have nothing to lose and, on their journey, discover the unknown right on their doorstep and true friendship.
