Riding along the Berlin Wall

From the construction of the Wall in August 1961 until its fall in 1989, the so-called “Death Strip” cut through the city and people’s lives for nearly 30 years. Stretching 160 kilometers in a zigzag pattern, the “Anti-Fascist Protection Wall” divided Berliners in East and West.

Over a 15-kilometer stretch between the site of the Wall’s fall on Bornholmer Straße and the government district, the bike tour follows the visible and invisible traces left behind by the “Anti-Fascist Protection Wall” in Berlin.

The Wall bike tour takes you to former border crossings, explores sites such as Mauerpark, and visits the Bernauer Strasse Memorial to view the only remaining intact section of the Wall, including a watchtower.
