Scenic reading about tunnel escapes with music

Of banned books, of faith in the GDR, of saying goodbye to friends, of interrogation, betrayal, and the planned escape.

A reading circle. During the 1970s, reading circles had formed in numerous cities across the GDR, where friends and acquaintances gathered to read banned contemporary works as well as literary classics together. However, one was just as little safe here from Stasi agents and wiretaps. We recreate such a reading circle, in which at some point the focus is not only on Franz Kafka, but also on house searches, interrogations, searching for ways to escape, and about goodbyes, as well as the hope for a better GDR.

The staged reading is accompanied and enhanced by music by Wolf Biermann, Gerulf Pannach, Veronika Fischer, Bettina Wegner, and others. It takes place, in keeping with the theme, in the Berlin underground not far from the entrance to an escape tunnel.
