August Deusser – An Artist's Life on the River
The exhibition presents over 60 works from various creative periods and offers an impressive insight into Deusser's artistic development between Impressionism and early Modernism. The focus is on landscapes, portraits, and evocative color compositions that reflect Deusser's particular sensitivity to light, movement, and atmosphere.
August Deusser is considered an important representative of German Modernism and a pioneer of the artistic avant-garde in the Rhineland. He was one of the most important members of the Sonderbund, of which Max Liebermann was an honorary member.
This personal connection between Deusser and Liebermann is underscored by the geographical proximity of the two exhibition venues in Berlin. This offers the opportunity to visit the August Deusser exhibitions and the Liebermann Villa in a single day and experience the art of both important painters in a unique way.
These two locations are connected by the Havel River, which flows through Spandau—the site of the Villa Schützenhof—and ultimately empties into Lake Wannsee. This connection creates a subtle bridge to the exhibition's theme, "Panta rhei – everything flows," and invites visitors to discover the ever-changing world of art.
They look back with joy and gratitude on the enthusiastic response and positive feedback to their previous exhibitions and see Berlin as a wonderful opportunity to introduce even more people to the art of August Deusser.
This exhibition marks the first time August Deusser's works have been presented in Berlin – another milestone in the dissemination of his artistic output.
