Echoes of Tumult brings together artistic positions that not only document violence, systemic failure, and vulnerability, but also seek ways of dealing with the painful realities they address.

The artists have varying degrees of proximity to the themes they explore and contribute a wide spectrum of speculative and documentary approaches, sensual and theatrical strategies, and personal perspectives. The works presented thus resonate in diverse ways with circumstances shaped by ecological crises, geopolitical interests, and war.
In doing so, they deliberately confront us with painful and complex situations, sometimes finding unexpected solidarity and hope amidst conflict and resistance.

Echoes of Tumult unfolds an affective field of resonances and disruptions that extends across two central artistic hubs in Berlin: the neighboring exhibition spaces Kunstraum Kreuzberg/Bethanien and daadgalerie.

The exhibition is part of the CTM Festival, which will take place in 2026 under the title "dissonate < > resonate," and engages with its concert and discussion program.
The exhibition is the starting point for a collaboration between three organizations: iii – instrument inventors initiative, the DAAD Artists-in-Berlin Program, and the CTM Festival, united by a shared interest in the intersections of sound and art with socio-political contexts, historical perspectives, and technological developments.

Echoes of Tumult showcases works by artists from the networks of these three organizations: the production of the majority of these works was made possible through residencies and projects offered by the partners.

The CTM Festival 2026 will take place from January 23 to February 1 at various venues in Berlin.

About the partners:
The CTM Festival connects multi-perspective experiences, critical reflection, and collaborative learning through an annual festival and ongoing collaborative projects, publications, commissions, concerts, club nights, and much more.

Echoes of Tumult presents works by artists from the networks of these three organizations: the production of the majority of these works was made possible through residencies and projects offered by the partners. The DAAD Artists-in-Berlin Program is one of the most prestigious residency programs for international artists and cultural practitioners in the fields of visual arts, film, literature, and music & sound. Each year, it awards approximately 20 outstanding fellows with working residencies in Berlin.

Emerging from The Hague's ArtScience tradition, iii – instrument inventors initiative is an artist-organized community and production platform that fosters new interdisciplinary practices that converge art, sound, performance, technology, and the human senses.
