Erla S. Haraldsdóttir
In her second solo exhibition at Gallery Gudmundsdóttir, Icelandic artist Erla S. Haraldsdóttir explores the interplay between space, light, and colour.
The exhibition focuses on a site-specific investigation of the gallery's architecture, which Haraldsdóttir deconstructs and reinterprets through painting and drawing.
The central triptych, Extended Corner (2025–2026), visually expands the physical conditions of the Joachimstraße gallery and challenges the perception of real space through projective lines.
This painterly approach is complemented by graphite-based works on paper with gold and silver leaf accents, which explore the mutability of lighting conditions and surface structures. Haraldsdóttir, whose multidisciplinary work has been exhibited internationally at venues including Moderna Museet Stockholm and the Berlinische Galerie, combines formal rigour with narrative elements in her practice.
This exhibition addresses the tension between artistic vision and institutional space, inviting viewers to reflect on the boundaries between personal memory and architectural reality.
