Musethica celebrates its 1,000th concert in Germany

The international educational initiative Musethica is celebrating its 1,000^(th) concert in Germany with a two-week chamber music festival in Berlin.

A total of 22 concerts will be performed over the course of the festival, three of which are open to the public free of charge. Young musicians will present a varied programme focusing on string quartets during the first week (25 October to 1 November), before expanding to include piano chamber music during the second week (2 to 8 November).

The festival forms part of an educational programme combining performance practice with social engagement, in which the students primarily perform in social institutions far removed from classical concert formats, such as nursing homes, psychiatric clinics and prisons. Direct interaction with the audience is at the heart of Musethica's approach.

During rehearsals and concerts, Anna Gebert (violin) and Dirk Mommertz (piano) will accompany the young ensembles as mentors. The Euphorie Quartet and international music students from Europe and Asia will also perform. Public concerts will take place on 31 October at art.loft in Wedding, on 1 November at Kiezraum on the Dragonerareal in Kreuzberg, and on 8 November at Neuer Marstall in Mitte.

The programme includes works by Brahms, Mozart, Schumann and others. The festival forms part of the EU-funded project, '1000+ Concerts: Innovating Higher Music Education Through Social Inclusion, and is being realised in cooperation with the Hanns Eisler School of Music, Berlin.
