Experience Berlin through fascinating perspectives on architecture and urban development. This tour of Karl-Marx-Allee is led by architects and sheds light on the history behind this magnificent boulevard stretching eastward.
This grand boulevard, modeled after Moscow and featuring nearly 3,000 apartments, tells the story of reconstruction in divided Berlin from a socialist perspective.
The “pastry-style” workers’ palaces are now candidates for UNESCO World Heritage status. Prestigious shops and luxuriously appointed apartments characterize the “Allee,” as it is called by its residents. With its neoclassical ornaments and mannerist decorations, the former Stalinallee development forms the eastern counterpart to the Hansaviertel, built at the same time in western Berlin.
