A rabid monster monkey in the mountains? Can that really be true? The story begins: the morning sun is shining over the mountains; the Köpenick family are driving along, looking forward to their upcoming holiday and, after the long journey, especially to breakfast.

What begins as a completely harmless and peaceful affair takes on ever wilder and more hair-raising proportions as they move from peak to peak and group to group. Every misunderstanding is passed on, peppered with people’s own fears, anxieties and prejudices.

With great humour and skilfully placed exaggerations, the author Leonora Leitl tackles a topical and, in truth, not at all funny subject: how is news blown out of proportion, where are facts twisted, half-truths passed on, information selected and steered in certain directions?

To mark World Children’s Day, Leonora Leitl will not only read from the story but also act it out using a specially crafted paper theatre.

An event as part of FeelAustria Week 2026 and in cooperation with the Austrian Cultural Forum.
