Berlin’s Grunewald offers many discoveries, from remnants of the Ice Age to very recent signs of climate change. On the way to the Museum of European Cultures, you’ll immerse yourself in these unique features firsthand and explore how they relate to the current exhibition, “The Mountains of Tyrol.”

Wanderung im Grunewald
Together with Katja Czerwinski from the Berlin chapter of the German Alpine Club, you’ll explore these traces in the landscape on a hike of about six kilometers. Along the way, you’ll see how glaciers have shaped Berlin’s landscape, learn more about climate change in the forest, and discover the connections between Berlin and Tyrol regarding these topics.
The hike ends in the garden of the Museum of European Cultures. There, participants will enjoy a shared snack—the Tyrolean version of a “Brotzeit.” Over light refreshments, there will be an opportunity to discuss and explore the topics in greater depth.
- Sturdy footwear and sufficient stamina for the hike are required.
- Suitable for families with children ages 9 and up.
- Meeting point: Grunewald S-Bahn station
- Cost of the snack (payable on site): Adults 15 euros, children up to age 14: 1 euro per year of age.
