What do döner and Schlager music have in common? Both have long been part of our everyday lives, bringing people together and telling stories about origins, longing, belonging, and the good life.

At the “Döner Dialogues” at the Heinrich Böll Library, döner culture and Schlager music come together. The guests are Verena Unbehaun and Stefan Hillebrand, who, as Unbehaun and Tastenmann, play electronic Schlager that blends ironic light music with contemplative lyrics: “Borderschlager.”
For Unbehaun and Hillebrand, the beauty of Schlager lies in its ability to build bridges - while also allowing plenty of freedom for performance and audience interaction.
The two met through their joint theater work on Berlin stages such as the Schaubühne and the HAU and began developing music together. Their pieces have taken them to theater stages and festivals, including the Theatertage Weißenbach in Austria. In 2026, they performed at venues such as the Grüner Salon at the Volksbühne, the Ballhaus Ost, and the Fusion Festival.
