Berlin-based artist Richard Sides has created a mixtape specifically for the house, which unfolds as a spatial sound installation throughout the entire building. For this installation, selected pieces of furniture are repurposed as hidden speakers, inviting visitors to take a seat, linger, and listen. By revisiting the building’s original use as a private residence, Sides transforms the Mies van der Rohe House into a walk-in resonance chamber for music and sound.
As an artist and curator, Sides explores the psychosomatic potential of media. His sculptures, paintings, and sound works critically engage with the commercialization of ecstasy and emotion, creating experiences that transcend familiar visual habits and the aesthetics of everyday life.
Open House is this year’s summer program at the Mies van der Rohe House.
The program also includes a presentation by the publishing platform BUS on Friday, September 4, at 7 p.m., as well as various picnic events.
Following the presentation by the London-based label Concentric Group in March, Richard Sides’ mixtape installation is the institution’s second event this year dedicated to the theme of sound.
