Preis der Nationalgalerie 2026
Wednesday, September 9, 2026 Entry: 9.00 pm With “Night,” the Neue Nationalgalerie presents the first major solo exhibition by Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan in Germany. The exhibition is part of the 2026 Nationalgalerie Prize, for which Maurizio Cattelan was selected by an international jury. It brings together important historical works by Cattelan and new pieces in the iconic Mies van der Rohe building.
Since the early 1990s, Maurizio Cattelan (*1960, Padua) has shaped the international art discourse with works that move between sculpture, installation and conceptual practice and consistently defy unambiguous interpretations. His works are characterized by sharp humour, bitter seriousness and combine provocation with a profound reflection on social, political and historical structures.
The exhibition is curated by Lisa Botti, curator at the Neue Nationalgalerie, in collaboration with Klaus Biesenbach, director of the Neue Nationalgalerie.
