20 Years of Radialsystem: In C — Special Performance

“In C” by Sasha Waltz is a colorful exploration of the world of minimal music, based on Terry Riley’s groundbreaking 1964 composition of the same name.

The playful system consists of 53 choreographic figures for structured improvisation with clear rules and principles. Within this framework, the dancers have creative freedom, which must, however, always relate to the ensemble—personal freedom ends where the group is compromised. The roles of leader and follower are not predetermined; all dancers can switch roles at any time.

With “In C,” the dance company Sasha Waltz & Guests launched a novel, experimental, and constantly evolving artistic process in 2021, from which new projects and formats continue to emerge to this day, involving both professional dancers and amateurs of all ages.
