Exhibition Opening & Commemorative Event

Günter Litfin was shot and killed on August 24, 1961—11 days after the Berlin Wall was built—while attempting to flee to West Berlin. After the fall of the Wall, the former watchtower at Kieler Eck became a place of remembrance for him.

On the 65th anniversary of his death, Günter Litfin will be commemorated, and the public is invited to the memorial site for the opening of the exhibition intervention “11 Days in August.”

The exhibition intervention is being created as part of a summer workshop with young people and in cooperation with the Pankow Youth Art School. The manga drawings on display artistically explore Günter Litfin’s life story and offer fresh, youthful perspectives on the construction of the Wall, its consequences, and the memory of it.
