The DDR Museum is coming to Weißensee for an evening filled with music history.
The “Berlin Youth Peace Week” in 1988 and the “Rock Poets Tour” in 1989 in Weißensee show that music history sometimes begins in places where you least expect it.

Der Osten lebt – immer noch!?
Amid global stars and everyday objects, the question arises: what does a hair dryer have to do with James Brown and Dirk Zöllner, or why does Gordon von Godin no longer care for the song “I Feel Good”? The music transports him back to the moment when, as an 18-year-old, he saw James Brown perform live in Weißensee on June 17, 1988.
Petra Schwarz shares her experiences as a music journalist at youth radio station DT64 in the 1980s. Together with Dirk Zöllner, they recount anecdotes that show that GDR music history wasn’t just written on big stages, but also consisted of small, surprising encounters.
Dirk Zöllner provides musical accompaniment for the evening, and a lighthearted GDR quiz with Simone Uthleb ensures that not only memories are evoked, but knowledge is also put to the test.
