Many single-family home neighborhoods are facing profound change: an aging population, smaller households, high dependence on cars, and significant land and resource consumption. At the same time, this is precisely where the potential lies, as existing homes and properties can be repurposed, expanded, shared, retrofitted for energy efficiency, and reorganized in a variety of ways. Monofunctional residential areas can be transformed into diverse neighborhoods.

In the transformation dialogue “Redeveloping Differently: How Can Single-Family Home Areas Become Sustainable?”, single-family home areas are at the center of the discussion as a transformable stock and as a starting point for diverse and resource-efficient neighborhoods. Drawing on the participants’ experiences and projects, the focus is on new redevelopment concepts, new community-based organizational models, and new municipal advisory approaches.
