Two-day conference: June 18, 2026, through June 19, 2026

The Federal Government’s German Strategy for Adaptation to Climate Change (DAS 2024) incorporates European and international UNESCO resolutions on protecting World Heritage sites from the impacts of climate change.

The “Cross-cutting” cluster includes the goal of creating suitable federal framework conditions to enable the 55 UNESCO World Heritage sites and 8 UNESCO Geoparks in Germany to submit climate adaptation plans by 2030.

The Federal Ministry for the Environment coordinates the federal government’s climate adaptation activities and invites those responsible to a technical exchange to jointly assess the current status and the most urgent needs regarding the protection of World Heritage sites in Germany. Building on this, the plan is to specify measures and implementation steps to achieve these goals.

The event is organized by the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Climate Action, Nature Conservation, and Nuclear Safety (BMUKN) in cooperation with the German Federal Environmental Foundation and the Rathgen Research Laboratory.
