The dambura is one of Afghanistan’s oldest musical instruments and serves as an important symbol of culture, identity, and the bond between generations, particularly among the Hazara.
In the diaspora, it represents memory and belonging. In Afghanistan, dambura festivals were once major events attracting large crowds. After the Taliban took power, however, both the festivals and the sounds of the dambura fell silent in many places. At Ulme35, the melodies are now heard once again—creating a space for encounter and exchange.
