18th JAZZDOR STRASBOURG-BERLIN FESTIVAL

For the second evening, Jazzdor has invited German musicians and musicians living in Germany to collaborate with French artists on international projects.

POLYBAHN

US/BE/FR Michael ATTIAS saxophone, Samuel BER drums, Benoît DELBECQ piano

POLYBAHN brings together three visionary poets of sound and time: pianist Benoît Delbecq, drummer Samuel Ber, and saxophonist Michaël Attias.

The Polybahn: wheels meshing with wheels, a pulsating tapestry of memory and song on the edge of the NOW, a cable car floating in a sky full of resonance. Multiple superimposed tempos, piano preparations, microtonal manipulations of the breath, and an ultra-coloristic approach to drums and cymbals create a quasi-electronic music using purely acoustic means. Many (poly) are the paths (bahn) through this unbroken dream melody of trance and shifting landscapes.

Hélène Duret SYNESTET feat. NILS WOGRAM

FR/BR/BE/DE Hélène DURET clarinet, Fil CAPORALI double bass, Sylvain DEBAISIEUX tenor saxophone, Maxime ROUAYROUX drums, Benjamin SAUZEREAU guitar, Nils WOGRAM trombone

The name Synestet refers to synesthesia, the phenomenon in which multiple senses merge and interact with one another. Clarinetist Hélène Duret’s band thus appeals to the sensory imagination: music becomes a play of colors, scents, shapes, and textures. An explosive and versatile rock guitar engages in a dialogue with rapid-fire drums that shift between foreground and background, while the saxophone, clarinet, double bass, and the trombone of guest artist Nils Wogram merge into a collective voice with instantly memorable melodies. Drawing on the legacy of Ornette Coleman, Jimmy Giu re, and Duke Ellington, as well as more contemporary influences such as Jakob Bro and Timber Timbre, this European sextet embarks on a sonic journey that celebrates both the virtues of simplicity and those of creativity.

  • Presented in collaboration with Jazz sous les pommiers (Coutances, France)
