Lada cars in the GDR
These cars were based on the Fiat 124 from Italy and were first imported by the GDR as the Shiguli, later under the export name Lada. They were built starting in 1970 by the automobile manufacturer AvtoVAZ on the Volga River. From the Soviet Union, they found their way to most socialist countries.
The non-fiction book “Lada 1970–1990: History, Models, Technology,” edited by Rolf Mahlke, highlights all these aspects with production figures, technical data, and previously unpublished photos. The automotive surprises we’ll be presenting right outside the door will make the evening even more exciting.
