Vast panoramas, dramatic seascapes, or vedute of Rome or Venice—the Gemäldegalerie houses many variations of landscape painting.
In conversation with art historian Henrik Engel and artist Birgit Bellmann, it becomes clear how landscape painting has developed into an autonomous genre since the Renaissance. Artistic techniques such as atmospheric perspective, chiaroscuro, and composition are explored in detail. Building on sketches made in front of the paintings, participants can explore the urban landscape of the Kulturforum through painting outdoors, weather permitting.
The workshop is suitable for beginners and advanced participants. All materials are provided.
