East Berlin. Memories. The Present. Conversation.

Thirty-six years after the fall of the Berlin Wall, District Mayor Dr. Cordelia Koch invites the public to the Town Hall Salon. Under the title “East Berlin. Memories. The Present. Conversation,” the event will focus on personal experiences from the GDR and the period of transformation.

“The City Hall Salon is my invitation to dialogue in these turbulent times. I want to listen to people and help keep Pankow united.” (Dr. Cordelia Koch)

The City Hall Salon provides a space for biographical insights and memories of a country that no longer exists. People share stories of upheaval and new beginnings, of triumphs and failures, of how others perceive them and how they see themselves. Different generations engage in conversation. The goal is a respectful exchange about what was—and what shapes our district today.

On May 28, 2026, Ekke Maaß, philosopher, writer, singer, and “traveler,” will be a guest at the Salon.

District Mayor Dr. Cordelia Koch will moderate the discussion. All guests are invited to participate in the conversation.

Admission is free.
