By the PAPILLONS theater troupe
At the heart of the production is the question of which people, places, or memories provided a sense of security and protection in early life—especially against the backdrop of later challenges.
At the same time, “heim-kehr” explores the return to language as a means of expression. In the production, this aspect is addressed, among other things, through the participation of four children, creating a tension between past and present as well as between silence and expression.

The theater ensemble PAPILLONS is an inclusive artistic project based at the "Am Kreuzberg" nursing home in Berlin. It consists of eleven performers, most of whom have dementia, who work together with professional artists and volunteers. The ensemble was founded in 2016 and has been under the artistic direction of Christine Vogt ever since. Children also participate in some productions.
The project is rooted in the care setting and combines elements of contemporary music, performance art, and biographical-documentary theater. The performances take place in a dedicated theater space within the nursing home and are aimed at a diverse audience. In doing so, the ensemble experiments with innovative theatrical forms that are intended as a contribution to the contemporary theater scene.
