Theatertreffen 2026

The Alfred Kerr Acting Award is presented annually as part of the Theatertreffen to recognize the outstanding performance of a young actor or actress in one of the ten most remarkable productions invited to the festival.

The award, which comes with a prize of 5,000 euros, is presented at the festival’s closing ceremony during a public matinee at the Haus der Berliner Festspiele. This year’s juror is actor, audiobook narrator, and author Matthias Brandt.

The Alfred Kerr Acting Award was established in 1991 in memory of the Berlin theater critic Alfred Kerr by his children Judith and Michael Kerr, together with the Tagesspiegel Press Foundation and the Berliner Festspiele/Theatertreffen. It is sponsored by the Alfred Kerr Foundation with the support of the Theatertreffen. Additional support comes from the publishing house Der Tagesspiegel, the Hartung family, and Gustav Kiepenheuer Bühnenvertriebs-GmbH.

A renowned theater personality serves as the juror, rotating annually.
