A journey through the Milky Way
Human life is measured in motion: the Earth rotates, and humans orbit the Sun. While the stars in the night sky appear fixed and the constellations unchanging, they are in fact in constant motion. The Sun—and with it, you—also travels ceaselessly around the center of the Milky Way.
Be there when these movements become visible. State-of-the-art visualizations, based on observations from the Gaia space observatory, reveal spectacular moments from the solar system’s past and future: wandering stars, comets, colorful clouds of gas and dust, and, for the first time, the dramatic merger of our galaxy with a smaller satellite galaxy.
With live narration
The event was developed by the American Museum of Natural History with support and in cooperation with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).
