The New York Times described the Slackers as “the sound of New York.” Brooklyn Vegan described them as “a clean blend of ska, reggae, and soul, given a healthy dose of grit by Vic Ruggiero’s rough New York accent.” Decades after their debut, the Washington Post noted that the Slackers “are still among the best.”
Since their formation in 1991, the Slackers have released 16 albums, 5 EPs, and countless singles. They have played thousands of high-energy concerts for their global fan base and remain as productive as ever.
Their 2025 EP “Money is King,” a reckoning with power as only the Slackers can write it, went straight into the Top 25 of Submodern Reports’ album charts. Their single “My Last Star” was a tribute to Greg Lee of Hepcat, thereby fulfilling the late singer’s final creative vision. The 11-track compilation “Lost and Found Vol. 2” achieved a surprise hit with the boogaloo streaming track “Diskambobulated.”
Their 2022 album “Don’t Let the Sunlight Fool Ya” was the Slackers’ first album to enter the charts, earning the sextet “New Artist” on the Billboard charts—after more than 30 years of band history.
