Lecture at the Käthe Kollwitz Museum in Berlin
New research conducted as part of the current special exhibition “Käthe Kollwitz and the Theater” at the Kollwitz Museum in Berlin reveals that the graphic artist and sculptor not only had a
strong interest in moving images, but also had personal favorite films.
The guest curator of the exhibition, Dr. Annette Seeler, will present this previously little-explored aspect in her lecture “Käthe Kollwitz Goes to the Movies” at the Kollwitz Museum.
The focus is on initial findings regarding Käthe Kollwitz’s relationship to cinema, supplemented by insights into her nieces’ film activities. Selected film clips will illustrate the fascinating connections between the artist and the medium of film.
The lecture also marks the kickoff of an accompanying film series organized by the Käthe Kollwitz Museum Berlin in collaboration with the Deutsche Kinemathek. The series will take place on the weekend of April 25 and 26, 2026, at the Bundesplatz-Kino and offers fascinating insights into the range of films that Käthe Kollwitz knew and appreciated.
