A sonata by the Lübeck organist Heinrich Stiehl (1829–1886) is dedicated to him; who also spent several years as a church musician in St. Petersburg and, among other things, became Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s organ teacher at the newly founded St. Petersburg Conservatory.
His work is also largely unknown today, although his Cello Sonata even won a composition competition and was given the nickname “Prize Sonata.” In cooperation with musicologist Klaus Harer and the German Cultural Forum for Eastern Europe, a recording was made in 2018 at Bad Krozinger Castle, featuring the Vienna grand piano by Streicher & Söhne 1864.
