The exhibition centre Pyramide was designed by the architects Ralf Schüler and Ursulina Schüler-Witte. The architects (among other things responsible for the International Congress Centre - ICC at the Berlin Exhibition Grounds and the Steglitzer Bierpinsel) won the competition for the new town hall building for the Berlin-Hellersdorf district in the early 1990s.
At that time, the unfinished shell of the Hellersdorf police headquarters, which was still planned during the GDR era, stood on the site of Riesaer Str. / corner of Jenaer Str.. It was exciting that this shell had to be included in the planning of the new building. The building was never used as a town hall because the district parliament decided otherwise and moved into its town hall in the "Hellen Mitte", the district centre of Hellersdorf built in the mid-1990s. As a result, the original design was adapted to the requirements of an office building, but the pyramid remained, opening its doors in 1994 as a municipal exhibition centre with a show of Berlin sculptors. Since then, around 200 exhibitions have been presented here and concerts and performances have been held.
