31 years of visits from over there - everyone agrees: the East Germans were taken for a ride 31 years ago. Boundlessly naive, gagged with bananas, narcotized by David Hasselhoff. In reality, reunification was a deceitful takeover, an incorporation that was never properly dealt with.

And now, a good three decades later, the whole country has a headache... so much for one narrative.

The other, previously untold and absolutely true story of the post-reunification period is provided by Nils Heinrich: Originally sworn to socialism in a blue shirt and even with a gun in his hand, he has been fundamentally flexible for about 30 years and is thus the real winner of German unity. For him, much more changed in the 90s than just the postal code.

No matter what happens to Europe in the future, nothing can shake him; he is prepared for anything. Just like millions of his former compatriots, who spread like a cloud of fine dust all over West Germany after 1990. Funny stories, even funnier songs and one or two Heinrich classics for the big colorful Ringelpiez on the occasion of the anniversary of German unity.
