35 years ago, in the fall of 1989, courageous citizens took to the streets and put an end to the SED regime. Throughout the GDR, offices of the Ministry of State Security were occupied to stop the destruction of documents. On January 15, 1990, demonstrators forced their way into the Stasi headquarters and secured the documents of the secret police.

Ausstellung Die Stasi und die Frauen
On the historic site in Berlin-Lichtenberg, you can trace the history of the place and learn more about the former GDR secret police. As part of the tour "The Stasi and the Women", you will get to know the permanent exhibition on the Stasi Records Archive and can take a look into an archive room with the original documents.
Using short stories and file examples, we will show how the Stasi collected, managed and used its information for its own purposes with the help of women.
At the same time, you will learn how oppositional women became the focus of the state security service and were systematically monitored.
After the tour, you can visit the Stasi Records Archive's sample file collection and apply to view the files on site.
