Satire Theater Potsdam, Kabarett Obelisk e.V.

The only thing funny about Prussia

In the middle of Potsdam's historic backdrop, in the baroque centre, something that some consider to be impossible takes place: Prussian cabaret!

Since its foundation in 1978, the professional cabaret theatre Obelisk has dedicated itself to political satire and the critical examination of history and everyday life. It is much more than a local stage; it attracts visitors from all over Germany, who describe it with a wink as "The only funny thing about Prussia!".

In-house productions and musicality

The Obelisk's repertoire includes a wide range of changing in-house programmes, from political satire to readings and comedy performances. The ironic and satirical dialogue is often performed musically. It is this characteristic musicality and the playful character of the plays that have won the theatre so many friends and a large fan base. The programme is complemented by guest performances by well-known cabaret artists and comedians from all over Germany.

The historic venue

The Obelisk cabaret has had its permanent venue at Charlottenstraße 31 since 1997. The listed building, known as the Altes Ordonnanzhaus, was remodelled on the orders of Frederick II in 1782. In the cabaret hall in the inner courtyard, audiences can experience the programmes in an intimate atmosphere. In the summer months, the cosy courtyard garden is also used as a venue for performances. The house is also home to the cabaret pub "Koschuweit".
