Kathrin Schülein meets: INES DALCHAU, former solo dancer of the Berlin State Opera.

A special guest calls for a special host. And so, Kathrin Schülein, director of Theater Ost and a former ballet dancer herself, takes on the role of host this time and welcomes us to our "People on Sunday" series:

Ines Dalchau – Former principal dancer of the Berlin State Opera.

Born in 1952, Ines Dalchau was among the first children to begin the seven-year training program to become a stage dancer at the Berlin State Ballet School in 1963.

She graduated in 1970 with her state examination as a stage dancer. Having already made her debut during an internship at the Komische Oper Berlin, Ines Dalchau was engaged by Tom Schilling for the Komische Oper Berlin's dance theater ensemble.

In 1974, she received a call to the Berlin State Opera Unter den Linden.

And with her came the solo roles in spectacular ballet productions, such as Masha in Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker, Eve in The Creation of the World, and roles in Spartacus, Juan of Zarissa, Abraxas, and Undine. She danced with partners like Joschka Sklenar, Roland Gawlik, Uwe Arnold, and others in a wide variety of productions.

In her 30-year career, she has participated in nearly 60 opera and ballet productions.

"I could be anything: lyrical, dramatic, comic, romantic. The stage—that was my life," Ines Dalchau sums up.

You can look forward to a conversation between two artists who know what they're talking about when it comes to dance. And not only that: Ines Dalchau has many memories of "our house" and what it once was. Prepare to be surprised.

You can also look forward to film and dance sequences and stories from Ines Dalchau about her life as a solo dancer, about exceptionally formative encounters with world-renowned Russian ballet soloists such as Galina Ulanova and Maya Plisetskaya, and about her artistic collaboration with Rudolf Nureyev at the Berlin State Opera in Tchaikovsky's ballet "Sleeping Beauty."

"My View of My Time" is the title of this retrospective on her artistic career. Joining her is Jürgen Nitschmann, music theater and ballet dramaturge and former deputy director of the GDR State Dance Ensemble.

The theater opens at 5:00 p.m.
