Flake was born in East Berlin in 1966. He was a member of the bands Feeling B and Magdalene Keibel Combo, among others. He has been the keyboardist for Rammstein since 1994.

His first book, "Der Tastenficker" (The Keyboard Fucker), was published in 2015, and his second, "Heute hat die Welt Geburtstag" (Today the World Has a Birthday), in 2017. Flake currently lives in Berlin.
