Promise, I'll Be Fine tells the story of fifteen-year-old Enrique, who grows up with his grandmother in a forgotten Slovak village. His mother Martina works far away in the city and rarely comes home. The summer days pass slowly: riding his moped, playing pranks with friends, occasionally doing chores for his mother. But beneath the surface, something is changing. Enrique begins to realise that his mother's demands are not as harmless as they seemed. Rumours are circulating in the village. His trust in his mother dwindles – he realises that the image he had formed of her was perhaps just an illusion.
A touching coming-of-age drama inspired by true events in the so-called ‘hungry’ Slovakian valleys.
The leading roles are played by amateur actors who were discovered locally.
