As part of its monthly BERLATIN programme series, the Babylon Cinema is presenting the Berlin premiere of Paolo Tizón's documentary film Night Has Come (original title: Vino la Noche).
This Peruvian, Spanish and Mexican co-production follows a group of young recruits during their voluntary training with the Peruvian armed forces. Set in the VRAEM region, an area marked by internal conflict and drug trafficking, the film highlights the transformation of young identities under the influence of military discipline.
The cinematography offers an intimate perspective, capturing moments of vulnerability and interpersonal care beyond the confines of institutional drill.
Night Has Come is a powerful debut feature film that critically examines the construction of masculinity and the psychosocial costs of armed conflict. For its nuanced portrayal, the film was awarded the Special Jury Prize at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival and the Best Director Award at the Málaga Film Festival, among others.
The screening will be in the original language with English subtitles.
Following the screening, there will be a Q&A with the film's director, Paolo Tizón, providing an opportunity to discuss the socio-political issues raised in the film in more depth.
