Prehistory and silent film era (1909-1929)

In 1920, the spotlights turned on in Johannisthal: the huge JOFA studios produced renowned silent and sound films such as ‘Nosferatu’ and ‘Ein Lied geht um die Welt’ (A Song Goes Around the World). From 1946 to 1961, Johannisthal was the filming and production location for DEFA, and later for GDR television.

The new exhibition at the Museum Treptow is accompanied by a comprehensive program of lectures and film screenings by author and JOFA expert Wolfgang May and film scholar Irina Vogt.
