Sigrid Grajek and Jens-Karsten Stoll embark on a literary exploration of the beginning of the last century, when, after a long period of peace, war was almost lyrically anticipated by many. When it finally arrived, it was greeted and celebrated by many with enthusiasm. However, the reality of the trenches was quite different from what had been imagined. And after the songs of jubilation came the laments for the dead.
