26th Jazz and Blues Days Lichterfelde: Blues & Boogie High Class

The young Swiss musician Jo Carpenter discovered all the records by Che & Ray and Fats Domino at the age of eight, igniting a passion she knew from the start she wanted to pursue professionally.

As a child, she began classical piano lessons, was exposed to jazz, but always insisted on being allowed to play blues and boogie-woogie as well. Alongside this, the multi-talented artist also learned to sing and play bass guitar, and later attended drama school in Zurich.

Even as a teenager, she became part of the Swiss boogie-woogie scene and launched her professional music career. All of this shaped Jo into an outstanding musician whose joy in making music is palpable. Her innovative and improvisational playing is captivating and pays homage to the pioneers of boogie-woogie. Jo belongs to the thankfully growing league of female boogie-woogie pianists who are bringing a more feminine touch to the genre.

Your companions this evening are harmonica virtuoso Frank Rihm from Bremen and German Blues Award winner Andreas Bock from Jeinsen near Hanover on drums.

Enjoy blues and boogie at its finest!
