Introduction to bookbinding: saddle stitching and rod binding

Join a cosy craft session to welcome in the new year and learn how to design your own books with writer and artist Demi Anter.

Participants will be guided through all the steps of bookbinding (saddle stitch), with an additional style (stab binding) offered as an option.

After production, there will be time to fill the books with texts, drawings and collages, with the optional theme of Berlin serving as inspiration. Materials are included in the price, but participants are encouraged to bring additional creative materials they would like to incorporate, such as texts, photos, ticket stubs, flyers and postcards, to make their books even more personal. All experience levels are welcome. Each participant will take home at least one handmade book, perfect as a gift or personal keepsake. Refreshments are included.

About the course leader:

Demi Anter is an award-winning artist and presenter. She regularly leads workshops at institutions in the US, Europe and the UK, including the National Theatre (UK), London Irish Cultural Centre, Women Writing Berlin Lab, WORD! Leicester, UC Santa Barbara and many more. Her books are held in the collections of UCSB Special Collections and the National Poetry Library (UK).
