Guided tour on the occasion of the coronation day of Frederick I on January 18, 1701

On January 18, 1701, Frederick III, Elector of Brandenburg, crowned himself in Königsberg, Eastern Europe. This act held great symbolic significance. From that day forward, he styled himself Frederick I of Prussia. With this elevation in rank, Frederick sought to secure a new place for himself among the European powers. A new era in Brandenburg-Prussian history had begun.


Using selected works of art, the exhibition explores the circumstances surrounding and preparations for the coronation, as well as Frederick's efforts to gain recognition for his new rank.
