Doppelabend: BETWEEN THE RIVER AND THE SEA + MAKE LOVE, NOT WAR

Yousef Sweid, born in Haifa, is a Palestinian-Israeli actor—a person who grew up between two worlds and has always grappled with their complexity. In his play “Between the River and the Sea,” Sweid explores his life between different cultures, narratives, and realities—different versions of the truth. He weaves personal anecdotes with political reflection—from humorous stories about life in Berlin to flashbacks to his childhood as an Arab child in a Christian family attending a Jewish kindergarten. He tries to understand how he navigates a world where he always finds himself “in between.”

Between the River and the Sea is a plea for telling unheard stories and for listening. An invitation to embrace complexity and experience the story of a life that can't decide on a simple path.

Now she returns to the Maxim Gorki Theater with her new show, Make Love Not War.

This time, she takes to the stage as a middle-aged, divorced woman, grappling with her fear of death and her lust for life. With brutal honesty and self-irony, she delves into the tangled intersection of love, sex, trauma, and politics—fully aware of the explosive nature of these topics. Make Love Not War is the story of a woman determined to find meaningful connections in a world that feels like it's out of joint. Along the way, she reaches the limits of her body, mind, and heart. But primarily those of her body. By showing herself unfiltered, Orit asks her audience to see her not as Israeli or Jewish, but as a sex goddess.
