Walter Benjamin coined the term "flâneur" as a central figure of the modern metropolis. He described his wanderings through Berlin in numerous publications. Observing these places evokes associations that serve to illustrate his life and work, to represent the past in the present.
His methodology, supplemented by the writings of Franz Hessel, is to be applied: to find one's way aimlessly to destinations and to allow oneself to be surprised by them, as Walter Benjamin said: "For any illustration lacking the element of surprise has a dulling effect."
Günter Leitner, a self-proclaimed Berlin flâneur, will surprise you.
He intends to stroll around Walter Benjamin Platz, to read the city, to decode it, like a text waiting to be deciphered.
