To celebrate Parodos Verlag's 20th anniversary, the 'en passant' chess café is hosting an evening combining publishing practice and philosophical reflection.
First, publisher and founder Ulf Heuner will trace the development of the company, placing his work as an editor in the context of his current book project, Dummes Denken deutscher Denker (Stupid Thinking by German Thinkers).
Philosopher Christian Kupke will then discuss the importance of writing and publishing for his work, and how the publishing house creates discursive spaces as a cultural entity, a subject that is highly pertinent in light of current discussions on knowledge production.
Finally, Uwe Rose will present excerpts from his new volume, Die Eule der Minerva: Literarische Streifzüge durch die Welt der Philosophie (The Owl of Minerva: Literary Excursions through the World of Philosophy). The evening will conclude with a discussion with Thomas Raab, a cognitive researcher from Vienna, whose recently published essay Intelligence and Imagination provides impetus for a more nuanced view of artificial intelligence.
Thus, the event offers a multi-layered insight into current philosophical and social issues.
