Ballhaus Spandau

Tradition and dance culture in western Berlin

A piece of cultural history lies dormant in Spandau: Ballhaus Spandau, Europe's oldest rock discotheque, is located on Dorfstraße in Tiefwerder. People have been dancing here since the early 20th century. Not only did the GDR band City make its first appearance in West Germany at the Ballhaus, but the history of the legendary punk band Die Ärzte also began here.

The Ballhaus Spandau is a venue steeped in tradition that has epitomised Berlin's dance and party culture for decades. Located in the centre of the old town of Spandau, the listed building combines nostalgic charm with lively culture and offers space for concerts, dance evenings, cabaret and private parties.

A place for encounters and movement

Whether swing, salsa or disco, the Ballhaus is known for its diverse dance events that bring generations together. The large dance floor, a characteristic stage and the cosy atmosphere make the venue a popular meeting place for dance enthusiasts from all over Berlin.

Historic flair meets modern use

Originally built as a ballroom in the pre-war period, the building has been lovingly restored and adapted to modern event requirements. Today, it combines historical architecture with contemporary event technology while remaining true to its original character - a piece of Berlin's living cultural history.

Neighbourhood tip

Combine your visit to the Ballhaus with a stroll through Spandau's historic city centre or along the Havel promenade. This is where history meets the relaxed Berlin way of life.
